Patch Notes

This page is the structured home for Below, Rusted Gods patch notes after the July 29, 2026 Steam launch. Use it to track retail hotfixes, decide which Operator guides to reread, and jump into deep dives like Patch 1.24.0 without inventing changelog fiction.

How we log patches

Each entry includes:

  • Date and Steam identity when available
  • Player-facing summary (stability, progression, terminals/media, text)
  • Links to wiki pages that need re-reading
  • Explicit callouts if endings, controls, or languages change

We summarize official Steam/dev posts. Always open the original announcement for precise wording.

Launch-day monitoring (July 29, 2026)

Before 1.23.1 posted, this ledger stayed intentionally empty of fake hotfix lines. Launch recap facts live on Out Now Launch. Early review temperature has since moved to Very Positive (~88% positive from roughly 147 reviews in early August)—see Review.

Day-one checklist when a new patch drops

  1. Read the official Steam news post.
  2. Skim this page’s summary.
  3. Open any dedicated deep-dive page (example: Patch 1.24.0).
  4. Re-verify Controls if input changes.
  5. Re-test stuck points via Soft Locks Troubleshooting and How to Progress.
  6. Update personal notes on Terminals & Radio if machines change.
  7. Only then chase new Endings routes.

Demo versus retail numbering

Itch and Steam demo builds iterated preview version lines. Full-game patches supersede demo numbering. Always state whether a bug happened on demo app 3243360 or retail 2895680. Soft-locks that persist across builds should be filed with the Bug Report Guide format: build number, repro, expected vs actual, specs, optional video—and the official Google Form linked from the Steam launch news post.

What players should log

Build ID, short repro, expected vs actual, system specs, and optional video. Cross-check soft-locks against Soft Locks Troubleshooting before filing. Confirm inputs on Controls, machines on Terminals & Radio, layout on Operator Station, tapes on Cassettes & Lore, squad flags on Squad Members.

Pages commonly invalidated by patches

Endings, Full Game Walkthrough, Demo Walkthrough (if retail diverges), System Requirements, Supported Languages, and anything linked from Launch News. Keep rituals on the Operator Checklist. Onboarding: Getting Started. Store facts: Release & Demo. Pricing: Price & Discount. Tone: Review.

Community mirror policy

If Steam is down, we may temporarily quote developer Discord or site posts with clear channel attribution—not invent notes. We still avoid dumping unrelated patch spam from other games. When in doubt, wait. Practice pages beat rumor threads: Getting Started, Soft Locks Troubleshooting, Terminals & Radio.

Template for future entries

YYYY-MM-DD — Build label if known

  • Stability: crash/soft-lock summary
  • Progression: gate repair summary
  • Terminals/media: radio/radar/VHS change summary
  • Text: subtitle or localization notes
  • Wiki reread: linked pages

Closing line

The ledger grows: 1.24.0 is the current release. Keep this page pinned through launch month, update your client, and only invent nothing. Machines change; honest changelogs keep Operators employed.
